Alternative Wall Covering

Design Advice

When considering new wall treatments, most homeowners tend to look solely at changing the paint. While this is a viable option, it’s not the only one! Paint can be messy and have one-dimensional results. There are a number of ways you can take your walls from drab to fab without using another coat of paint. Consider the alternatives:

Metallics
Metallics are unconventional and one of the more abstract materials you can use in your home. Whether used as a full-wall material or simply as an accent, metallics are one of the best ways to incite a modern feel. It’s worth noting that Metallic isn’t always synonymous with being shiny or bright chrome colours. Rather, there are a number of tamed options that might still shimmer but not overwhelm the aesthetic of your space.

Wallpaper and Fabric
One of the best ways to exhibit your creative touch in your home is by using wallpaper or wall fabrics. Wallpaper is a great tool to infuse colour and flare onto any wall, whether it’s for the entire wall as a whole or simply as an accent. Permanent wallpapers can be tricky to take down, so if you’re looking to test out a few options, temporary fabrics are a fun and easy alternative.

Tiles and Wood
Conventionally used as flooring, tile and wood are a couple materials you can consider for your walls too! Both would add a certain element of aesthetic intrigue in your space, however, it’s best to consider simply using them as accents rather than as a full wall treatment, to avoid an overwhelming aesthetic.

Rather than looking solely at paint for your wall treatments, consider metallics, wallpapers, fabrics, wood or even tile as wall covering. Some of these alternatives might seem a little unconventional, but they can add a whole new dimension to your space!
